Targetcraft Archers Battle the Elements at Towcester WA720
12 July 2026 – Towcester Archers WA720
Targetcraft Archers faced one of the toughest weather tests of the season at Towcester Archers’ third annual WA720 competition, where relentless winds dominated the day’s shooting.
If anyone thought the conditions at Targetcraft could be blustery, Towcester had other ideas. The ever-present wind, which never eased throughout the warm summer day, made accurate shooting exceptionally difficult and played havoc with scores across every bow style.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Targetcraft team battled hard throughout the competition. Although the medals proved difficult to come by, Chris Tungate produced an excellent performance to claim Bronze in the Senior Recurve category, ensuring the club returned home with some silverware.
There were also strong performances from the rest of the team. Toby Radcliffe put in a determined display in the Senior Barebow category, competing against some strong archers, including current UK number two Rene Bekker. Peter Radcliffe (50+ Compound) and Scott Collins (50+ Longbow) also fought hard against both the conditions and strong competition, but narrowly missed out on the podium on this occasion.
While the results may not have reflected the effort put in by the team, the experience of competing in such demanding conditions will undoubtedly prove valuable as the season continues. On a day when simply keeping arrows on the target was an achievement, every Targetcraft Archer showed resilience, determination and sportsmanship in equal measure.
